I’ve just finished my degree in Graphic Design by putting the finishing touches to my exhibition space of our Final Degree Show, which runs from 20-26 June 2013 at the University of Chester’s Kingsway Buildings.
It’s been a very heavy week. Since my last blog post, lots has happened. I’ve been at my exhibition space every day this week, trying things out, mounting, sorting technical issues and getting things printed. I’ve included some photographs that I’ve been taking on my iPhone as the space has progressed through the week.
On Monday, I was able to get my work printed on the large format printers, whilst I also sourced foam board of an (almost) appropriate size. This would need to be cut down the following morning. With everything printed, I had a much better idea of scale and how everything would piece together. I also spent some time touching up areas of my board, due to some imperfections on the surface following last year’s degree show.
Tuesday was a very busy day, involving mounting my boards to the wall, fixing the shelf up (its ‘floating’ nature meant a little assistance from friends and Tom, our fantastic technician). I also got my title board ready, but decided it wouldn’t look quite right. After consulting with tutors, I decided to have the Glovebox logo cut on our brilliant new laser cutter.
In comparison, it now looks much better, and it has since been painted black to fit with the rest of the Glovebox identity. This was done quite late in the day on the Tuesday, so decided I would mount and paint the logo the following day, along with sorting out other elements of my exhibit.
Following further developments on Wednesday and Thursday, the space is now pretty much ready. I’ll be replacing my slightly off-centre business cards ready for the opening night on 20th June, whilst a couple of the things on my shelf, such as my PDP (Personal Development Plan) won’t be on display at that time. One or two things will also require reprinting as I’m just a bit of a perfectionist at times. Visitors to the show will also be treated to some complimentary Rhubarb & Custards, fitting with my Yummy Custard branding, of course!
I’ll be tweaking those things I’ve mentioned following our work being marked over the next week or so. I’m looking forward to getting back in and setting it to be ready for the opening night on 20th June 2013. Everyone’s work looks absolutely stunning and I’m really looking forward to seeing the fully finished article in a couple of weeks.
(Un)Lucky 2013 takes place with a Preview Evening on Thursday 20th June at 18:00, and the exhibition will remain open from 21-26 June between 10am-4pm, at the University of Chester’s Kingsway Campus. The show features work from Fine Art, Graphic Design and Photography. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
